H loves music. If he's crying, we will turn on a select song (he has a new favorite song each week) and he instantly stops crying. It's amazing. He loves when we sing to him and we've incorporated a bath-time only song and a bedtime only song into his routine that both hubby and I can sing to him. It's really pretty awesome.
What I've found fascinating is the amount of childhood songs that are coming back to me. In the evening when I get home from work H and I play and dance and I sing for hours on end. I switch back and forth from "grown up" music like the beatles, radiohead or mariah carey to children's songs like "old mcdonald had a farm" and "hush little baby."
I'll be 6 songs in and all of a sudden whip another childhood song that I must have buried deep in my brain. Granted, there are times when I can't remember exact words of songs so i definitely make up my own lyrics on the fly--which is pretty fun.
Come to think of it, I also make up my own songs "oh hudson...you've got a big booger in your little baby nose. i want to get it out out out. of your little baby snout snout snout. oh hudson...."
I only sang "Rockabye Baby" once and then realized how horrifying of a song it is, so that one's off the list.
Got any favorite songs for kids?
